The best decision I ever made (aside from a particular question I asked a particular person* on St. Patrick's Day, 1996) was walking away from the high-paying job that was consuming all my time, ruining my health, and sucking out my soul.
Giving up a little temporary security for some essential liberty teaches you a lot about both, namely that most people do not need the former nearly as much as they think they do, and that the return on the latter is, though unmeasurable, immeasurable.
