I was diagnosed with Autism when I was four. I'm middle-aged, so this was a really long time ago before they tended to sort people out into categories within Autism quite as much. My mom was determined to make me behave more or less normally and while I can't really recommend many of her methods, I am grateful for her efforts.

I've lived a reasonably normal life, in great part due to that early training from my mom. She did a good enough job on me that people who know me armchair-diagnosis-argue that I couldn't possibly be autistic. I'm not going to list out all ways I'm internally peculiar here in defense of that long ago diagnoses, but I will say that I'm very sure it was correct.

Your son will continue to be awesome and grow up to thrive because he's got awesome parents who won't simply stick a label on him and shelve him because he needs to work harder at certain things than some supposed average kid does.
