She was right. Those aren't for everyone, but they do work well for you.
I recently had to get new frames, and ye ghods what a zoo. I have a relatively small face, so I have to be careful about wide frames lest they overpower me; also, I want a good vertical field of vision. Guess what the current fashion is? That's right -- wide, skinny rectangles. And way too many of them were what I think of as "Ugly Betty glasses", wide dark plastic all around, which are NOT flattering to someone with my facial structure and skin tone.
I lucked out; I found one pair of oval copper wire-rims, of a size that don't give me the owl-eyes look, and which remind me of the first really flattering pair of glasses I had (back in my college days). They weren't cheap, but it was SO worth it to have something I liked.
