There I was, working on the fundraiser and talking to donors about what pose to do next. When author Allison Pang pops up on Twitter and says that if I do the cover for her book A Brush of Darkness, she’ll send me the fishnets. She even offered to pre-tear them for me!

Around the same time, two different people requested that I do–you guessed it–A Brush of Darkness.

How could I refuse?

My thanks to Allison for bringing something truly special to this cover pose, and for just generally being a fun human being.

This wasn’t the most painful pose I’ve done, though it wasn’t entirely comfortable. But I think it highlights that we haven’t moved beyond the chainmail bikini mentality as much as we’d like to think; we’ve just modernized it.

Yeah, I think it's definitely the outfit more than the pose itself that comes off as silly. It's not exactly a super-powerful pose or anything, but it's not spine breaking or organ displacing. But that outfit is so impractical for anything besides, say, clubbing. And I assume she isn't a badass heroine who fights evil lurking in clubs on goth night. (Which could be fun, too, I suppose.)

Reading Discount Armageddon and discovering that the outfit on the cover, with the exception of color (and okay, the weapons), is PRECISELY what the protagonist wears for work was an utter delight.

I haven't read the book either, so maybe it IS about fighting evil while dressed for the goth club (and I DO go to goth clubs, so I don't even mean that as an insult in and of itself) but I somehow doubt it.

I kind of thought that, too, actually! I follow her blog, so know bits of what her series entail, but have only actually read her Mira Grant stuff. I'm planning on picking some of her other books when I have the chance/finances! (Libriomancer is also on my list, haha.)
