The coolest Tesla coil application that I've seen was a guy who created a CD eraser. He had two Tesla coils with a motor and a CD mount in the middle, he'd mount a CD and turn on the motor and then turn on the two Tesla coils. The electric arcs would hit the CD and you'd see the aluminum substrate evaporate as the disk spun in concentric tracks as the arcs worked towards the middle. It was really cool to watch. Long before DVDs and Blurays, I'd love to see how those would react to such a rig.
