When i was a Trek addict I read a lot more about the show than was, perhaps, altogether healthy: one of the things I got from my reading was that Gene Roddenberry was a great opportunist, and frequently rather mean in consequence. Writing these lyrics was an example of that. Also, he did not invent the Prime Directive, one of the writers did that....
