Nicely done! This reminded me of an article I read on Mashable today, The 8 main excuses Hollywood uses for racially insensitive casting – and why they're BS. They quote one of the producers of that awful recent Noah movie, excusing the film's utter whiteness with, "What we realized is that this story is functioning at the level of myth, and as a mythical story, the race of the individuals doesn’t matter. They’re supposed to be stand-ins for all people. Either you end up with a Bennetton ad or the crew of the Starship Enterprise. You either try to put everything in there, which just calls attention to it, or you just say, ‘Let’s make that not a factor, because we’re trying to deal with everyman.’"
The article writer countered with, "Leaving aside that it'd actually be really nice to see a cast diverse enough to make up a Benetton ad, why should "everyman" default to white?"
That's exactly it, you know? Why can't we have media look like a Benetton ad or like your first picture here? It's a good thing to have people who look very different in the same story! It's like some people equate a high level of diversity with fakeness, which is so not the reality we live in.
