After more than a year away from the convention scene, I’ll be at ConFusion in Novi this weekend. My schedule is relatively light, which is probably for the best:

Saturday

• 10 a.m. – Evolving Visions of Toxic Masculinity (with Jason Sanford, Marsalis, Kameron Hurley, and Brandon O’Brien)
• 3 p.m. – Mass Autographing
• 7 p.m. – Reading (with Cherie Priest and Anthony W. Eichenlaub)

My son is coming with my this year. I’ll probably be splitting my free time between catching up with all of my SF/F friends and showing him around the convention. My main goal is just for both of us to have a fun, relatively laid-back time. And of course, to catch up on more than a year’s worth of hugs from everyone!

I hope you have a lovely time. I still remember meeting you at Continuum 10 in 2014 in Melbourne, the first ever con I went to. 2020 is Continuum 16, and I'm chairing it. FUCKEN YIKES. And I don't have nearly the mobility I did then (I ran from a Kaffeeklatsch with you to a book launch for my friend Mary; they were at opposite ends of the venue!).

Good luck with the con this year! I hope things go smoothly. How bad have the smoke and fires been around Melbourne?

It sure was a great introduction to cons! I will take your well-wishes with me this year.

The fires aren't super close but the smoke haze has been awful (as you would expect from it being internationally visible!). But walking home from the train station tonight I looked up and saw the stars for the first time in weeks, and it gave me hope.

It hurts seeing how bad things have been across Australia. I can't imagine how much worse to be there.
